It always bothers me when I see pictures of the face characters for Mulan at a Disney park and she’s dressed up like she is at the start of the film.
The whole point of the film was that she was uncomfortable like that. Mulan is a character who breaks the stereotype; she doesn’t want to be ultra-feminine, as is expected of her, but she doesn’t want to be completely masculine either, and by the end she’s settled in a personality and a style of dressing that is comfortable for her. She still looks feminine, but she could easily kick your ass.
And then the Disney parks dress her as she appeared at the start, and they’ve just negated everything the movie stood for. I know her face character isn’t always dressed like that, but it still makes me sad.
